Willow Structures for the Garden
One for the crafty garden lovers creating wigwams, trellis and willow structures.
Taught by Norah Kennedy
Mon 27 Apr 2015
Why spend money on willow structures for your garden when you can make your own?! This is a fun, hands-on course which showcases the joy of working with willow and teaches the simple willow weaving techniques of this five thousand year old craft. Norah will provide individual guidance as we only have small group sizes.
Students can expect to produce two wigwams, a fan-shaped support, heart-shaped support, a trellis and perhaps even a small hurdle. Remember, these are large items, so leave plenty of space in your car for the journey home!
Norah’s love of natural materials started when she worked as a herdswomen and was enhanced when she retrained as a willow basketmaker in the 1980s. Her interest lies in making baskets that are ‘right in themselves and good for use’ and reviving at least a portion of the many traditional uses for willow that have been superseded, but not surpassed by, synthetic materials. She has been teaching at Kingcombe for eighteen years.
Norah will also be teaching Willow Weekend Workshop (Fri 24 to Sun 26 Apr), Willow Workshop (Mon 9 Thur 12 Nov) and Festive Willow (Fri 13 Nov).
