Powerstock Common Nature Reserve

Powerstock Common Nature Reserve

Powerstock @ Tony Bates

Unspoilt mix of 115 hectares of ancient woodland with open grassy areas along the line of the disused Maiden Newton to Bridport railway line, just a few minutes from the Kingcombe Centre.

What can I see at Powerstock Common?

  • Interesting hedge banks and numerous small ponds.
  • Superb views can be glimpsed of Dorset's coastline.
  • Resident woodland birds with migrants such as willow warbler and chiffchaff.
  • Fallow deer can be seen in the woodland.
  • Wildflowers include bluebell, pendulous sedge, bee orchid, rock rose, dyers greeweed & devil's-bit scabious.
  • Speckled wood, dingy skipper, marsh fritillary and brown argus butterflies.
  • Superb for newts and dragonflies in the ponds.

Access

Much of the reserve is accessible for the less-able using a wide hard track which runs through the reserve. A nature trail is waymarked (uneven surface).
