Needle Felted Hares and Foxes
Saturday 31 March 2018 10:00 - 16:00
Design and create your own mad March hare or frisky fox using a beautiful array of sustainable coloured fleece.
Love wool? Then you’ll love needle felting! Fibre artist Carla Taylor of The Mousehole Woolery will guide you step by step through the techniques of needle felting. This technique uses special barbed needles to repeatedly stab and sculpt wool fibres together to create 2d and 3d forms, transforming beautiful loose sheep’s fleece into your own unique design.
On this one-day workshop you will learn how to build individual shapes, joining shapes together, and how to determine the proportions and character of your unique hare or fox to bring them alive using felting needles and your hands to mould, shape and sculpt the wool.
By the end of the workshop you will have created your own felted hare or fox ready for you to take home or, if you can part with it, to give to someone as a special gift. A fun, creative and inspiring day. Suitable for any level of experience from beginners upwards.
The Mousehole Woolery is situated in the heart of the Dorset countryside and is the home and studio of fibre artist Carla Taylor, as recently featured on Channel 4's Craft It Yourself. Carla creates contemporary sustainable needle felted wool sculptures inspired the animals and landscape of the British countryside and coastline. As an official supporter of the Campaign for Wool and the local farming community, Carla is passionate about promoting local Dorset and British wool and often refers to conservation awareness within her sculptures. She also sometimes incorporates vintage pieces into her work, reflecting her lifetime passion for antiques. Carla exhibits her work at various galleries and contemporary shows across the south west and runs needle felting workshops.
Carla will also be at The Kingcombe Centre to teach Needle Felted Festive Robins on Sun 25 Nov.
