Mon 12 – Fri 16 Jun 2017

KC.Enews.14.July.Summer Watercolour Arts Course. C Nicola Hawkins (4)

Paint the abundant flowers and plants of the summer meadows, hedgerows and gardens in this stimulating, friendly botanical painting workshop.

This course will encourage you to study and appreciate the variety of flowers and plants in midsummer and to practise ways of portraying them realistically in graphite and/or watercolour.  We will help you to learn new techniques and embellish your existing skills so that you can further develop your own individual style.

This will be a stimulating, friendly workshop in which you can explore the forms, textures and colours of summer plants.  We are lucky to be able to collect subject material from the wealth of vegetation around the Centre, but if there is a subject you would particularly like to work on, you are very welcome to bring it with you.  You might make a detailed study of one plant, either as a botanical illustration or as a 'portrait'.  Or you could make a page of smaller comparative studies or even a small arrangement of several plants.

The workshop will provide a great opportunity for you to practise techniques suggested by the subject matter, guided by the tutor. There will be plenty of individual attention and encouragement, and demonstrations as required, to explore ways of portraying the vibrant subjects of the summer garden or hedgerow. In the evenings there will be the opportunity for discussions, and to look at the work of other artists working in this field.  If you would like to bring any finished or semi-finished work for discussion please do, and if there is a particular challenge you would like to work on during the workshop please let the tutor know.  This course is suitable for those with some existing experience.
