Volunteering

Make a difference!

Volunteers are the most important resource a charity can have. Individuals from all generations already support our activities by volunteering. They give up their precious spare time to help in a number of different ways. Can you?

A few of the ways our volunteers have helped us:

  • Year round general gardening activities on our organic plot that produces vegetables for our kitchen.
  • General maintenance of the Centre’s outdoor areas, through grass cutting, window cleaning, weeding, painting wood preservative on exposed timbers and much more.
  • Hedge laying, conservation work and monitoring.
  • Assisting people with learning difficulties of all ages.
  • Helping on our two major fundraising events of the year.
  • Mini bus driving.
  • Serving light lunches, afternoon refreshments and evening meals to course participants and visitors.
  • Making jams and preserves to sell.
  • General office work, including creative writing and occasional computer maintenance.
  • Taking photographs of wildlife and people.

Could you help take us forward with the new opportunities we have to offer? We are actively seeking additional volunteers who will help on a regular basis to tend our vegetable patch, increase our educational value, and drive our mini bus thus enhancing people’s enjoyment of Kingcombe.

We also welcome ideas and with your help hope to make them reality.

Why not become part of our Muddy Wellies’ Team? We will meet between 10.30am and 4pm on the first Sunday of each month as from January 2010. Everybody is welcome; all we ask is for you to contact us a few days before to help us plan the day’s events and reserve your free soup and crusty bread lunch.

Muddy Wellies

What’s in it for you?

Fun, being part of something new, new friends, new skills and the chance to learn more about our environment.

Apart from the reassuring knowledge that you are doing something special to help the environment and those individuals who may be less advantaged, we can offer to pay 40p for each mile travelled to the centre, up to a maximum of a 40 mile round trip. In addition, for every 50 hours volunteered you will qualify for a Kingcombe Volunteer Reward entitling you to a free day course.

During 2010 there will be opportunities to undertake specific training courses to enhance your skills.

How to Volunteer

We are revising our volunteering packs for 2010. Please contact Davina Hansford or Debbie Billen for further information about how you can make a difference.
